Physical Characteristics and Application Advantages of Ceramic Fiber Blankets

Ceramic fiber blankets, as a high-performance insulation material, are widely used in high-temperature industrial fields due to their excellent temperature resistance, stability, and energy-saving effects. They not only effectively improve the operational efficiency of thermal equipment but also significantly reduce energy consumption, offering strong comprehensive economic benefits.

I. Excellent High-Temperature Resistance

Ceramic fiber blankets exhibit low thermal conductivity in high-temperature environments, providing outstanding insulation performance. At 1000°C, their thermal conductivity is only about 15% that of fireclay brick and approximately 38% that of lightweight fireclay brick. It is important to note that their thermal conductivity is influenced by several factors, primarily service temperature, material density, shot content, and fiber diameter.

The relationship between thermal conductivity and density is as follows:

Within a certain range, thermal conductivity decreases as density increases, but the rate of decrease gradually slows.

Once density exceeds a specific range, thermal conductivity stops decreasing and may even begin to increase.

For different service temperatures, there is a corresponding optimal density value, and this value increases as the temperature rises.

II. Prominent Lightweight Characteristic

The density of ceramic fiber blankets typically ranges from 90-220 kg/m³, which is only 1/5 to 1/3 that of lightweight refractory bricks. This lightweight nature facilitates flexible application in various types of thermal equipment.

III. Exceptional Thermal Stability

Composed of long fibers with good toughness, ceramic fiber blankets can effectively withstand rapid temperature changes without developing structural stress. Their unique porous, interlocking fiber structure fully absorbs the thermal expansion effects of individual fibers. By employing appropriate installation techniques, sufficient strength and excellent thermal shock resistance can be ensured.

IV. Good Chemical Stability

Ceramic fiber blankets demonstrate good chemical stability in oxidizing and neutral atmospheres and can resist corrosion from most chemical substances (except strong acids like hydrofluoric acid and phosphoric acid). It should be noted that in reducing atmospheres and environments containing alkali metal oxides or sulfides, the material's stability is relatively weaker, and crystallization may occur, leading to degraded fiber performance.

The chemical stability of the material primarily depends on its chemical composition and impurity content:

High-purity alumina fibers exhibit the most superior chemical stability.

Fluctuations in SiO₂ content within the 50%-60% range have a relatively limited impact on the material's chemical stability.
