Unveiling How Ceramic Fiber Enhances Automotive Comfort and Safety

Today, consumers place greater emphasis on interior space, preventive safety features, noise levels, thermal insulation, and overall driving experience, as well as safety in the event of an accident. Commonly used ceramic fiber products in automotive manufacturing include ceramic fiber blankets, ceramic fiber modules, and ceramic fiber paper. Below is a brief overview of how these ceramic fiber products are applied at different stages of manufacturing and in various parts of a vehicle.

During the modification of metal automotive components or the shaping of the vehicle body structure to relieve stress, heat treatment furnaces such as car-bottom furnaces or overhead conveyor heat treatment lines are used. At this stage, ceramic fiber modules and blankets are employed as linings in these heat treatment furnaces for metal parts.

For hood insulation, ceramic fiber paper or thin ceramic fiber blankets are used to reduce engine noise entering the cabin. As vehicle speed and engine power increase, engine roar and other noises intensify and can transmit into the cabin through various mediums. Applying a certain amount of heat insulation material under the hood can effectively reduce noise transmission through airborne paths. Additionally, sound-absorbing mats placed on the upper and lower surfaces of the engine cover can absorb a portion of the noise. The exhaust pipe, being part of the engine exhaust system-which includes the exhaust manifold, pipes, and muffler-also contributes to noise. Typically, a catalytic converter is integrated into the exhaust system to control pollutant emissions. Exhaust systems generally consist of front and rear exhaust pipes.

Inside the door panels, ceramic fiber paper or thin ceramic fiber blankets are used. In almost all car models, the combined surface area of the four doors is substantial, second only to the roof and floor. During driving, the doors are directly exposed to airflow. While designers optimize door contours to reduce wind resistance and associated noise, automotive manufacturers also recognize that applying extensive sound-deadening mats to the inner surface of door panels can effectively absorb wind noise. Disassembly of various car models by aftermarket shops reveals that such sound insulation materials are typically found only in higher-priced vehicles.
