Analysis Of Key Factors Affecting The Service Temperature Of Ceramic Fiber Products

In practical industrial applications, the service temperature of ceramic fiber products is not only determined by their chemical composition and manufacturing quality, but also influenced by a combination of factors in the operating environment, including impurity content, air humidity, furnace lining construction methods, and kiln operating regimes.

1. Impact of Impurity Content

Higher impurity content in ceramic fiber reduces the relative proportion of its key effective components-alumina (Al₂O₃) and silica (SiO₂)-directly leading to diminished high-temperature performance and a corresponding decrease in service temperature. SUNTHERM ceramic fiber products feature a pure white color and low impurity content, ensuring excellent refractory stability and extended service life.

2. Impact of Humidity

The thermal insulation performance of ceramic fiber largely stems from its high porosity, which can reach up to 90%. However, water has a thermal conductivity of approximately 0.52 W/m·K at 0°C, while ice exhibits an even higher conductivity of 2.32 W/m·K-20 times and 94 times that of static air (0.0247 W/m·K), respectively. Once moisture within the pores freezes, it severely compromises insulation effectiveness. Therefore, controlling environmental humidity is critical in insulation engineering. For applications during rainy seasons or in humid conditions, SUNTHERM high-temperature hydrophobic blankets are recommended. With a hydrophobic rate exceeding 99%, they effectively block moisture and maintain stable thermal conductivity and service temperature.

3. Impact of Laying Method

The laying method of ceramic fiber directly affects its service temperature. Typically, a parallel-laid structure exhibits lower thermal conductivity than a stacked structure, allowing the service temperature of parallel-laid installations to be approximately 50°C higher than that of stacked ones. Practical designs should select the appropriate construction method based on temperature requirements.

4. Impact of Operating Regime

Kiln operating regimes are categorized into continuous and intermittent modes. Under identical material conditions, continuously operating kilns-due to their stable thermal state-can typically operate at service temperatures about 50°C lower than those of intermittent kilns. Material selection should therefore be evaluated in conjunction with the specific operating regime.
